At Heights Dental Tampa, your initial appointment begins with a full set of digital x-rays and periodontal (gum) measurements. Our digital X-rays use 90 percent less radiation in comparison to conventional X-ray machines.

Gum measurements are taken with the use of a small probe to check the depth of your gum pockets (the space between your tooth and supporting bone). These values will let us know the health of your gums.

An oral cancer screening is important for the early detection of cancer, and at Heights Dental Tampa, Dr. Jainandan performs a thorough soft tissue evaluation during your initial appointment. According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, “Close to 49,750 Americans will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year. It will cause over 9,750 deaths, killing roughly 1 person per hour, 24 hours per day.” The Oral Cancer Foundation also states: “Historically the death rate associated with this cancer is particularly high not because it is hard to discover or diagnose, but due to the cancer being routinely discovered late in its development.” At Heights Dental Tampa, Dr. Jainandan utilizes the VELscope® system - which is a powerful, fluorescence-based device that enhances the visualization of the soft tissue in the mouth to detect abnormalities such as oral cancer and premalignant dysplasia. The cost of a VELscope® exam will be presented during your initial examination if you elect to have this adjunctive service done.
