Root Canals

The purpose of a root canal is to remove the dead or dying nerve, blood vessels, and bacteria in the pulp (center) of the tooth. In most cases, root canals are effective for saving badly infected or severely broken teeth. The absence of the nerve will not affect its day-to-day functioning, so the procedure is a great way to preserve the tooth. If you have severe tooth pain when chewing and prolonged sensitivity to heat and cold, chances are a root canal may be needed. Alternatively, if you had past trauma to your teeth and now notice your tooth is darker or gray in color, the nerve may be dead and a root canal and crown will be needed. Root canals are often painless, as you are numbed with a local anesthetic prior to the procedure. Dr. Jainandan uses the latest in rotary technology for his root canal procedures. In many cases, your tooth will be rebuilt with a crown on the same day as a root canal, reducing the number of trips needed to our office!
